  1. I dont care if this movie is good, it does not deserve the title of The Electric State. The theme, vibe, and story of the original is completely different.

The book is a masterpiece. This is a corporate disgrace.

  2. HOLY HOW DID I MISS THIS! i'm sososososososo glad Simon Stalenhag is getting ANOTHER SHOW based of his art! i do kind of wish it was things from the flood, as a sequel to tales from the loop… but come on, it's electric state! that is so awesome as well! i really hope the other eldritch one he did also gets a show eventually too, i think it was called the labyrinth.
i hope it is as good as tales from the loop!

edit: i was so excited i wrote this before even watching it.. after watching… i'm not so sure it will have the same care taken with tales from the loop.. i can only hope

  3. It looks like Netflix intends to take the disturbing and surreal dystopia that the book chillingly and magically portrays and turn it into a cutsey, saccharine piece of witless treacle. I hope I am wrong.

  4. this is actually a lot better looking than the teaser. it makes sense the whole story, they credited Simon, and dude, I'm actually kind of hyped. still bummed at how much they ruined it, but this is the best we're gonna get these days.

  5. I don't understand how they can pump so much money in an amazing concept just to completely change it into something we've seen a billion times before. I imagine it went something like this

Ideaperson: Hey we have this idea for a movie based on a book. It's about a girl and a boy who's soul is trapped in a robot's body in a world full of people so addicted to VR that they're lost to it fully and-

    Producer: Did you say robot?

    I: …yeah?

P: Does it fight other robots?

    I: ..what?

P:Does the robot go boom boom kapoof?

I: N-no? But the emotional connection-

    P: I want robots fighting.

I: Oh. I mean there are some old military vessels and advertisement robots in the background-

P: Brilliant. Make THEM fight, too. All of them.

    I: But they're not-

    P: Call Chris Pratt

    I: Chris Pratt?

P: Yeah that guy from Guardians of the Galaxy? People l o v e Chris Pratt saving the day from explosions and SOMEBODY has to protect that little girl from evil robots.

I: But…that's not what this story is abou-

P: B o y this is gonna suck, release it straight to Netflix actually.

    I: 🤡🔪

  6. Wow they took a totally awesome book that was vague, frightening, only making you want to know about everything in this alternate world and what ruined it. The book hardly had any action at all. They ruined what makes the book such a gem and they really could have made something different and able to be built upon and this looks awful and way off the mark. I'm sure this is going to suck.

  7. Not anything like the abandoned beauty of the electric state. Not the book to turn into a blockbuster action film, please never touch tales from the loop or things from the flood.

  8. Jesus Christ.
I mean this looks shit enough and an absolute insult to the source material but please for the love of God please stop casting Millie Bobby Brown!
    In anything…….ever!

  9. From the looks of things you can really get the vibe they only looked at the art and didn't read much, if any, of the story of the Electric State. They took a quiet and atmospheric book about the dangers of over-consumption and the loss of humanity, and turned it into a Chris Pratt action film. This is the worst timeline to be in.

  10. That looks awesome!

And the book is clearly unadaptable.
It's got no story that you can use.
A mood doesn't make a story. Rampant consumerism, insane AIs and robots don't make a story with a begining, middle, and end.
You can't watch that. You can do nothing with that. All they've made so far is short films.

They've made something that looks fun, and sad, heartbreaking, and hopeful.

It's a case of the film has to be different to work.

  11. Nope I’ll take a pass on this one it looks like a lesson in how to cherry pick and make a mockery of the source material, Truly awful casting to boot neither of those actors need more money or screen time.

  12. You can learn the saga from animatrix… they are migrating to the middle east.. and long story short most of scenarios about these confirm that we will be destroyed and harvested by the machines..
