Indonesia should make a movie about American history
The Dutch wanted to recolonize Indonesia and then gradually over time give it independence so that it would become a stable, prosperous state. They also wanted to leave Indonesia sovereign as the united states of Indonesia, a federation of different Indonesian states in which each ethnicity had its own state so that each religion/culture/ethic was respected and not dominated by another, and no central state in which Java dominates other islands. That's why the politionele acties took place, to make Indonesia sovereign in a stable way, not to exploit the Indonesians or something like that, that was over for some time. Also, the Indonesian 'freedom' fighters, just like the Dutch, committed a lot of war crimes, and then you also have the horrors that were inflicted on the Dutch during the Bersiap period, but only the Dutch are judged and treated like opressors
movie can twist the fact or history.
Found this by accident on a streaming service and it did not disappoint. The character development was strong, the action sequences were nice, and the ending was phenomenal.
All Occupation has a good and a bad side.
The Good side is people who live in the colony are expose to the outer world and they are also introduce to a stable Goverment System. for example, if the French do not occupied Vietnam and the Dutch do not Occupied Indonesia as British Occupied Malaya, then there will no city in this country and no development like today.
The Bad side of Occupation is use to be feel by native people. Our grandfather feel all the suffer and the colonization but from the colonization they relized that Free Country must be born. Colonization also bring death to people especially during the Japanese and French occupation in Indonesia and Vietnam. The worse impact of colonization is on our natural resource which are taken by Colonizer.
My Opa's family lived in Indonesia for the better part of 200 years. He fought the Japanese during WWII, fled to Australia and then joined the US Marines (was a Royal Dutch Marine prior). He was in his 30's through WWII. My Oma was captured and spend 4 years in a camp. She survived, and after the war when my father was born my Opa fought in this conflict as well. He was Indo, 1/2 dutch. My Oma was 100% dutch. They left when my father was a toddler, but only spent a few years in the Netherlands as it was in rough shape after WWII. They came to Canada when my father was 5. My grandfather was a bit of an asshole in real life. The last time I saw him was when I was 9 (I'm middle aged now). He was an alcoholic and a violent man when he was angry. He had killed people and I know those years of fighting broke something in him. I think fighting for him was different as well as he felt Indonesia was his home that he lost. That doesn't condone any of the things done throughout the years to the Indonesian people, but it's more awkward when you're related to them. In Canada I grew up seeing pictures of my grandparents old home, and eating rijsttafel on Sunday evenings. I'm only 1/8 Indo but I still feel like it's a home I've never been to. I'm definitely going to watch this movie, and I would love to visit Indonesia someday.

Maybe Hitler did not send whole Dutch population to internment camp…that's why Dutch forgot all the sufferings during WW2, and went to reclaim it's colony back like nothing happened. Shocking!!!!!
