  1. If you liked this, you will absolutely love "1670" a very similar polish netflix series, it's got even more wit and humor than the Decameron. Both gems non the less.

  2. the series is about the setting of The Decameron, not the stories in it: nobles feasting in a villa on the country-side during the plague of 1348, trying to entertain each other (while going crazy in this series). most notable themes in my opinion: classism, faith, desperation, carpe diem, lust, love and mourning. though all protagonists are terrible people in their own way, I've grown to root for some of them nonetheless (while celebrating the deaths of others). I honestly enjoyed the series and think it's good advertisement for the original book, while not containing the stories told in it and hence not having too much in common with it. I haven't read the book, but I think the disappointment from those who have, stems from the expectation for the series to be a movie version of the book, whereas it's actually more of a fictional origin story for the stories in the book.

  3. I got all excited when I saw it at first but after this trailer I'm very very sceptical. It's probably going to be another Netflix rubbish that has nothing to do with Decameron.

Also, this multicultural cast 🙂 where's the Asian-American?

  4. this looks like something that would be a lot of fun.

you are all forgetting that this was adapted from Bocaccios stories and is meant to be enjoyed as a dark comedy. stop overalyzing how flawed something is and just enjoy sleezy entertainment set ina historical period.

enjoy art. enjoy someones adaptation of a well known work of writings. life is too short to have a pickle up your ass over things that mean nothing by the end of the day.

  5. One of my high school's English classes, probably the class whose students had the highest IQs, studied the Decameron every year. At lunch, my friends would ask, Are you reading the Decameron? And I would answer, No, I'm reading Tell Me that You Love Me, Junie Moon.

  6. This seems to have no relationship with the decameron itself, I'd have to watch it to be sure but I don't remember the book involving so much drama between the characters in the framing story 🤨 strikes me as quite Bridgerton-esque in terms of attention to history 🤨

  7. Just add COVID having been serious.. (Modern medicine, quick vaccines & sensitization) This is a mirror to today's income inequality in society, complete with anti-vaxers 🤳😊😢😅 Highly recommend 👌🏾

  8. It’s inspired by The Decameron in terms of several young nobles going to escape the plague in Florence, but that’s as far as it goes. If you can get off your high horse and stop judging a series off purely the title, it’s actually a really good watch. Lighthearted in some parts, macabre in others and purely nonsensical fun. Netflix has even said if you’re after historical accuracy then maybe this series isn’t for you. And tbh, it might even inspire people to actually look into the history of the Decameron, medieval Italy ect it did me. They didn’t advertise is as a documentary, it’s a black comedy🙂

  9. I haven't read the book but after watching the show is kinda obvious they took more inspiration from the setting than the telling stories part

It's kinda lika a prequel, you shouldn't see it as an adaptation, it's like a fanfiction, a derivative work, it takes the original work as a base not a guide to do everything

You didn't miss out on a good Decameron adaptation, the story us too long and complex to exist only from the demand of woke executives
