  1. The change of liet kynes' gender is not a bad thing I guess, it gives more emotion to the character. Not to mention chani's her daughter, it'll be more emotional.

  2. Honestly what makes this movie so great was having no idea what was coming next, and a lot of that had to do with Hanz. For example, and I don't know if anyone else had this feel, they land on Arrakis, the prideful music is playing, and then all the sudden Hanz drops that ominous deep bass sound randomly while they're chanting "Atreides". That just gave me straight chills knowing that shits about to go down, we just don't know when. The ominous vibe in this movie is incredible, I love that kind of stuff. Nothing cheap about it, nothing cliché, and no useless cursing that cheapens the moment. It felt so pure and original. Honestly was thinking the only thing I can compare it to was being 12 playing Halo 3 for the first time, in terms of the ominous feel you get. Well that and Bladerunner, but that was also directed by Dennis so comparing to something outside his work.

  3. At the age of 73 i watched it on last Monday at the lighthouse Petone NZ and one week later i have booked and will watch again, as its a masterpiece and at 73 i might miss part two…you mostly followed the book THANK YOU

  4. This film sports a distinctly Arabic theme, in keeping with author Frank Herbert having used Islamic culture as an influence for his story.

Composer Hans Zimmer is a big fan of the novel Dune, and turned down working with frequent collaborator Christopher Nolan on Tenet (2020) to score this film. For the same reason, Denis Villeneuve was the top choice but turned down the offer to direct the Bond film No Time to Die (2021).

In Dune (1984), all the Harkonnen were depicted as red-haired. In this movie they are all depicted as bald.

Rebecca Ferguson plays the mother of Timothée Chalamet despite being only 12 years older than him.

Actor Timothée Chalamet was 23 when he played Paul Atreides, two years younger than Kyle MacLachlan when he played the same role in Dune (1984). In the novel, Paul was 15 years old.

Denis Villeneuve has revisited Dune (1984) and continued Blade Runner (1982). Sean Young played the main character's love interest in both films back in the 80s.

The film's clothing is based on Dune (1984): the Harkonnen soldiers wear bulky green armor, the Atreides workers wear black uniforms with high collars and kepi caps, and the Sardaukar wear full pressure suits (while in the book they wore regular military uniforms and helmets).

David Dastmalchian's third movie with director Denis Villeneuve, following Prisoners (2013) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017).

The cast features one Oscar winner (Javier Bardem) and three Oscar nominees (Josh Brolin, Timothée Chalamet, and Charlotte Rampling).

  5. This movie was ok. The original is much better. Why is there this need to remake a classic? when I heard about this movie, I figured it was a part 2

  6. 62 billion, that is the death count for Paul Atreides. Darth Vader is piker compared to that. The fremen are actually the most horrible murderres who would do anyting for Paul, they burned worlds when given opportunity by Paul.

  7. Been a life long fan of the Dune series. I loved the new movie. That being said, I had one issue. MORE ZENDAYA!!!!! The soundtrack was also off the hook!!!

  8. I should have mentioned that I've watched the prior movie and the entire Scify series as well as read all the books, so my experience, and expectations are different. IMAX version is amazing I'm sure!

I have watched it again, a few times, LOL, which is the major benefit of streaming. Turned up and played with the sound to maximize effects. It's great that it's following the story. Villenueve is following the book closely despite subtle changes. Jessica's inner conflict is well expressed, as well as Paul's resentment toward Bene Gesserit. For newbies, this version is fantastic. I am more hopeful of not only a Part 2 but a further series of movies, hopefully by Villenueve & Co. It would be great to get to Chapterhouse book on film.

  9. This film was absolutely amazing…..the best scifi films in years. And a true experience to see in IMAX. One that I wont forget for sometime. Something about this movie is sticking with me.
