This really makes me wanna see this movie.
Nihilistic humor at its finest.
But really drawing into Yelena’s sense of humor stems from hopelessness, forgoing redemption and learning to accept who she is, except she’s not simply who she is.
She spent half her life as a mind-controlled assassin with an extensive kill count, then as a fully-conscious assassin with an extensive kill count. Neither times were based on her own free will.
Yelena’s one vision of happiness was a coverup before she was forced into a Black Widow, and then realizing her sister died saving her, she’s left contemplating her own sense of purpose or meaning.
Hopelessness alone can be a very powerful adversary for a film like this. Cannot wait enough!
