MICKEY 17 (2025) Movie Review

One has to give Warner Bros some degree of credit for green-lighting Mickey 17. Easily the most lavish movie of director Bong Joon-ho’s career, it’s the kind of original, audacious sci-fi we rarely see on the big screen anymore. The fact that it doesn’t entirely work is almost beside the point, as stuff like this so rarely gets made; the fact that it’s getting released at all feels like some kind of a miracle. However, it also can’t be denied that this uneven, bizarre film seems more likely defined for cult status than mainstream success.

  1. Great review. I think an excellent piece of work when viewed from a distance. In certain scenes, it would have been much more realistic if the baby creeper had been animatronic rather than CG. The monster in "the host" was actually a real puppet model in certain scenes.

  2. Chris' review sounds exactly how I felt about The Host. That's the film that introduced Joon-ho to international audiences but I had mixed feelings about it. I'm seeing this one on Friday, I don't have high expectations but hopefully it will be entertaining.
