  1. Was delighted to see that the BBC made Series 2 of this!!!👍😊 We waited long enough for it. Hopefully there will be more series to come in the future.

  2. Nothing like as good as Series 1.
Lesley Manville is outstanding again as the matriarchal glue holding them all and the storyline together.
    The rest is basically filler.

  3. This series is nowhere near as good as the first.
The Africa bomb disposal storyline is just dull, however it does allow the BBC to tick their ethnic inclusion boxes 😆😆

  4. Ooooh Mark Bonnar is in this, oooh he's Scottish and …… he's so wh¥te.

So proud of you Mark, so very, very proud. You've represented your country wonderfully 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Well Done.

    Yeah ….. ridiculous isn't it? 😆😆

  5. Switched off after 5 minutes such a fake backdrop and the storyline didn't do justice to the guys who actually took part in the great war.
Not many are alive today to recount their ordeals had they been they would have likened this to the biggest insult to the brave men and women who fought and died in defense of our land.
They might as well have rerun the old doctor who series for what this rubbish was.
The only outstanding wartime military series BBC ever did was the 3 part docudrama Dunkirk. This world on fire series is pathetically lame on all fronts and nowhere near resembled or portrayed WW2 in any accurate form.

  6. An engrossing saga, possibly because it's so predictable and runs over well worn trials and tribulations. The numerous soapy bits are somehow comforting amidst the carnage, the plot that so full of coincidences, and the playing fast and loose with time and geography. (How did Gregor get to Dunkirk and Harry and Kasia back home?)

  7. Now you have to bring in racism….why don’t you leave that generation alone and stop with your infernal desperation to please the idiots who want to tear this countries history down. They were a generation that could walk all over the weakness of todays generations in their sleep. You sally their memories with your warped and twisted renditions.
I hope you are defunded really soon. I feel sorry for people who have to pay to watch your god awful lefty rubbish.

  8. I enjoyed this drama series purely for entertainment, though the "Woke" virtual signalling really does stretch historical credibility. Social attitudes towards sexuality, ethnicity and children born out of wedlock were much less tolerant in World War 2. It seems to be a drama representing the liberal social values of the 2020's transplanted into a World War 2 setting, which feels very false.

Some of the military details are inaccurate, unrealistic and implausible. The RAF pilot character's uniform jacket lacked pilot's insignia (a 'winged brevet' above the left chest pocket). Whilst this was corrected later in series 2, the jacket had no rank insignia (?), whereas his Squadron Leader and Sergeant rival did. The pilot character also had a miraculous ability to detect German bombers in complete darkness and thick cloud, without the aid of airborne radar and ground-based search lights.

Whilst the Hurricane fighter which he flew was indeed deployed for night fighting, radar equipped two-seat aircraft were being introduced during the Blitz, to overcome their severe limitations at night, such as the Bristol Beaufighter. When the pilot was shot down and badly injured, his German Army search party seemed utterly incompetent! Odd that the Germans were within inches of the pilot hiding in grass, or didn't use search dogs, for instance. The German Army uniforms were also very inaccurate as to styling detail and insignia. This lack of historical details reflects very poor research.

I most enjoyed the subplot as to the the German girl indoctrinated by Nazi ideology and had joined the Lebensborn programme. The issue of creating a genetically perfect and racially pure "master race", against the moral, religious and social norms of the time deserves a drama series in its own right.

  9. One cheesy script moment, the escapee's in France "I'll see you in Paris when the war is over". At that point, they didn't know if the war WAS going to be over, so why didn't the Script Editor pick that up? And another cheesy moment, was when the Sarge was buried in the desert. At that time, it would have been a standard Church of England prayer book service. Short and to the point. Instead, they had some weird multi faith stuff going on, with a horrific remark by one of the English soldiers at the end, about wanting drink etc. Truly it was designed to depict the English as non-religious oafs, which wasn't an accurate portrayal of Christian England in 1940's. It was chilling – so much accuracy abandoned for the sake of cheap-wokie-point scoring. And yet it was well acted, directed, designed. Was the producer too timid to say "Hey, stop making all these Woke points, all the live long day, because people will see through it and it will put them off enjoying the series"

  10. Great Acting, Great Directing. Script that is so cheesy in places that you want to cry. All that Woke stuff really gets in the way of a good story, because it is so glaringly inaccurate.
